The trip to Cabin #6 in the woods was not coming at a convenient time for Caroline. She hit a point where she was miserable, depressed, confused about where to go with her life, and was not a fan of the outdoors. Her boyfriend Calvin was ecstatic about the rental cabin owned by Secluded Bear Cabins Inc. He promised that it would be worth it to escape to the woods. Caroline doesn’t know that her boyfriend of three years has a plan of his own for their trip. Neither could have planned for the visitors coming across the cabin after the sun goes down. A cabin that was no longer supposed to be rented out to the public.

In another town, Nick is dealing with the feeling that something is off in his marriage. The only thing that doesn’t feel off is the hunting trip with his childhood friend Mitch. The secret his wife has been hiding comes out, leading to a fight that sends Nick spiraling. Even Mitch questions Nick’s logic and innocence. Nick comes up with an ill-formulated plan to avoid being accused of murder. His plan leads them deep into the woods, where they become lost and seek shelter from an approaching storm—refuge in the occupied Cabin #6.

Sheriff Roy Midlang knows what lives in the woods. He has worked in the area his entire career. Among his colleagues, he is seen as the leading authority on the large bat-from-hell creatures. He knows how they hunt, when they hibernate, and how to keep them satisfied so they do not leave their territory. He even knows what situations will result in a visit from the two agents in suits. What he couldn’t prepare for is how a young couple and two friends will put themselves in fatal danger.

  • To begin with, this is amazing, and your editor does not use that word often. It was impossible to put down, and the mystery of it all drove the story onwards to a very interesting conclusion that should satisfy any reader of the genre.
